Fire Department Safety Alert

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning and watch for much of Michigan beginning last Thursday, November 28 and lasting through Thursday, December 05. The storm brought all-time daily record-breaking snow in some areas. The forecast for Wednesday through Thursday includes snow squalls, wind gusts, extreme cold temperatures and flash freezing across the state. Expect hazardous travel this evening into Thursday. Power outages are possible.

These conditions increase the risk of cold-related illness (CRI), particularly for more vulnerable populations such as those without shelter. Additionally, during power outages people may use generators or other gas-powered equipment to power homes or provide a heat source. Improper use of such equipment can lead to Carbon Monoxide (CO) poisonings.
